17th Biennial Exhibition

The Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne will be hosting the 17th ‘The Art of Botanical Illustration’ (TABI) biennial Exhibition, between Friday 27 September and Saturday 12 October 2024.

Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria will be officially opening the 17th TABI exhibition at Domain House on Friday 27 September.

TABI is one of Australia’s leading botanical illustration exhibitions.  It will be presented as a hybrid exhibition, with a physical exhibition held at Domain House, Melbourne, and as a virtual exhibition.   Offering the exhibition in a hybrid format will promote it to a global audience and encourage more international artists to submit artwork following the success of TABI 2022.

The deadline for artists submitting artworks for selection for TABI 2024 is Friday 26th July.

To have a fully registered entry for the exhibition you must:

1. Complete and submit the entry  form.

2. Upload artwork to Dropbox 

All images MUST be uploaded to Dropbox labelled “Last Name, First Name – Artwork Title” for your submission to be considered. Click here to upload the images to Dropbox.

3. Pay entry fee of $10 per artwork

Payment of your entry fee will be required on submission of each artwork. To pay entry fee, click here.

4. Complete Statement by a Supplier form if required

To complete the Statement by a Supplier Form, click herePlease scan and return to the Friends. This form is required if you are not registered for GST.

7th Global Botanic Gardens Congress

During the Congress, the RBGV will be showcasing specific areas within the Melbourne Botanic Gardens including the Arid and Drylands precinct, Fern Gully (including the Sensory Garden) and Working Wetlands and Lake System.

The alignment with the Congress provides a wonderful opportunity for TABI 2022 to present botanical  works reflecting the theme of the Congress by including some artworks representative of plants from these significant areas listed above within the Melbourne Gardens.

While artist’s selection of a subject is a personal one, if you are considering submitting works in TABI we encourage you to explore the attached list of plants (see below).

While we are keen to support the theme of the Congress in TABI 2022, artists are not required to paint/draw subject matter listed above to be selected in this exhibition.
