Friends' Photography Group

Photo Group News: May 2017

Since our first group meeting on Wednesday 11 April, a committee has been put together. Thanks to Tim Barker, Dimi Bouzalas, Kay Mackrell, Richard Kirsner, Leeann Herman and Eril Deighton for volunteering.

Following on from our first meeting, we are pleased to announce the aims of the group as well as the calendar of events for 2017.

The aims of the group are
To enrich FRBGM through photography
Improve member’s photographic techniques

Being a member of the FRBGM is a requirement.

After analysing the results of the survey monkey questionnaire, the group meetings will take place on 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 11 am. They will alternate between a meeting in Mueller Hall and a photo walk through the Gardens. These walks will start from the Rose Pavilion near the Perennial Border and the Gardens House garden. There will be no meeting in January.

The 2017 program

 Photo Walk   Camellias
19 July  General meeting   Show and Tell: bring along your favourite camera

We still need more help! We are looking for someone from the membership to help with our publicity. We have the opportunity to publicise our activities by using FRBGM’s Facebook, eNews, website and Botanic News magazine.

We are keen to grow our numbers in order to be able to put on a more varied program and to attract speakers etc. Regrettably there is not the capacity within the current committee to expand the group’s activities to the weekend. Understandably this will mean some of those interested in joining the group will be disappointed. However, there would be support from the committee if any members would like to come forward to lead the weekend activities.

We have set up a survey on Survey Monkey. The goal of this survey is to research the interests and expectations of FRBGM members who would like to participate in the new group. By completing this survey we will be able to gauge Friends’ interest in photography and what activities and events they would like the group to put organise. You can complete this survey anonymously or offer your email details to be part of the group email mailing. We are especially interested in anyone who would like to join the committee to help us put the survey answers into action!

The survey can be found at
